Uzbek Cotton Research Institute was established in 1929 under the name All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Cotton (SoyuzNIXI). For the past period the Institute was represented by S. Segizboev, BP Straumal, AM Maltsev, SN Ryzhov, NM Mannonov, ZS Tursunhodjaev, S. Yuldashev, AI Imomaliev, RO Ousanov, SI Ibrahimov, SR Rakhmonkulov, AE Avlikoqulov, Sh.N. Nurmatov, J. Ahmedov, Sh.J. Teshaev. And since 2012, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences BMKholikov is acting as General Director.

Initially the Institute included Central Selection Station, Central Plant Protection, Central Fertilizer and Agro-Soil Science, Central Machine and Cotton Agrotechnics, Central Irrigation and Agrotechnical Station Akkavak, as well as cotton experimental stations in Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. . These stations were subsequently separated as independent institutions. These include the Uzbek Research Institute of Crop Selection and Seed Production, the Scientific Research Institute of Agricultural Mechanization and Electrification of Uzbekistan, the Scientific Research Institute of Plant Protection of Uzbekistan, the Tajik and Turkmen Agricultural Institutions, the Azerbaijan Cotton Research Institute, the Kyrgyz and Kazakh Agricultural Institute.
